Conversing with Art: Up Close and Personal
Join artist/art educator Renee Sandell, PhD for a hands-on, multi-sensory workshop that will engage your creativity and insight as you decipher deeper meanings of art. Strengthen your "Visual Fitness" as you experience a guided, in-depth, and personal "conversation" with a postcard-sized reproduction to discover its visual forms, themes, and contexts. Using a packet of playful materials and creative strategies, each participant decodes and explores an artwork’s layers of meaning. This fun workshop concludes with an opportunity for lively group sharing of observations and unusual discoveries from what you have seen.

Renee Sandellis currently the Director of the expeditionary, museum-based SummerVision DC Program, which she designed and has delivered for the National Art Education Association since 2010. Previously Director/Professor of Art Education at George Mason University and Professor of Art Education at Maryland Institute College of Art. Sandell holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Art Education from The Ohio State University. She has received numerous awards for her leadership and scholarship on her Form+Theme+Context (FTC) methodology as a balanced way of seeing that deepens meaningful engagement in art as well as other phenomena.
